Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Laboratory Technician provides clinical laboratory testing, specimen collection, and diagnostic support for the Ascension Island medical clinic under the V2X program. The role ensures laboratory readiness for routine, emergency, and after‑hours medical operations in a remote, austere environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing, specimen collection, blood analysis, and diagnostic support for clinic and emergency medical response.
• Maintain laboratory operations in compliance with AFI 44‑102, DoD CLIP standards, and accreditation requirements.
• Conduct blood chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, and infectious disease testing as authorized.
• Support BAC and breathalyzer testing for fit‑for‑duty determinations.
• Assist with quality assurance, proficiency testing, equipment calibration, and inspection readiness.
• Maintain laboratory records, specimen tracking, and testing logs in line with privacy and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with providers, paramedics, pathologists, external labs, and medical leadership to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in emergency preparedness, mass‑casualty response, drug‑testing programs, and biosafety procedures.
